For those of you who have been studying photography for a long time, maybe you have the desire to upgrade your camera, but do you think it's necessary? Moreover, more and more new cameras are appearing which makes you even more tempted... But will upgrading your camera also improve your photos? Let's check here whether you need it or not...
1. You need a high ISO to take photos
Usually high ISO is avoided by photographers because it makes photos noisy. But sometimes there are jobs that require you to use a high ISO, for example photographing events where using lights or flash is prohibited, like it or not you have to increase the ISO to keep the photos bright. If this happens, you can try to invest in a lens first, choose a lens with a large aperture such as 50mm which is quite affordable. Apart from that, you can also try with lighting equipment.
But if all the considerations above are still not enough, you can upgrade your camera to a higher ISO capability.
2. Requires sophisticated auto focus
Usually beginner cameras are equipped with 9 or 11 focus points and only 1 cross point which is the most sensitive. If you need to photograph landscapes or product photos, it is still enough to use autofocus. It's different if your photo needs are sports photos or wedding photos where the moment can't be repeated again, you can start thinking about upgrading your camera with more sophisticated autofocus.
For example, like the Canon 7D Mark II camera, this camera is equipped with 65 focus points and all of them are sensitive cross type. There is also the Nikon D500 with 153 focus points and 99 of them are cross type.
3. Requires the ability to shoot with high FPS (Frames per second).
This can also be adjusted to suit your needs. If you are photographing models or still objects, you don't need this feature. But if you photograph sporting events or wild life, you need this feature so you can record all the movement details.
Before upgrading your camera, maybe you can combine the FPS feature with a high shutter speed so you can capture fast-moving moments.
4. Other factors
Apart from the three factors above, there are many other factors such as a larger sensor, Wi-Fi connectivity, image resolution with larger magpixels. But make sure you upgrade your camera according to your photography needs, not just because you want to.
