Tips for Photographing the Blue Sky

Capturing the colour of a blue sky well requires special techniques. What are those?

1. Timing

The color of the sky depends on the sun, sometimes it can be covered by clouds so the sky is gray. It is very important to know when the sky is very blue so that it makes it easier for you to get blue sky photos. The best time is 9 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm. Of course, not in the morning when the sun rises or in the afternoon when the sun sets.

2. Shooting Position

Your shooting position has a big influence on the results of your photos, you know! You should avoid positions directly facing the sun. This can cause backlighting. You should take a position opposite to the sun, namely behind the sun.

3. Camera Settings

You can use a fast shutter speed of at least 1/800 or 1/1000. For aperture, you can use a large number, at least f/8 to prevent vignettes in the photo. For ISO, you can set it last after shutter speed and aperture. ISO adjusts to the results of the two previous settings. If the photo is a bit dark you can increase the ISO, if it is too bright you can lower the ISO.

If you use a small shutter speed (under 1/800), you can't get sky blue because the light is still too bright.
