For group photos, it doesn't have to be done in a studio, but you can also do it in an open space, you just need to be observant to see whether the background matches the photo you want. Usually, in terms of lighting settings, outdoor photos are not as easy as indoors.
1. Preparation of equipment
Preparing the equipment you need is very important. Usually you need a tripod, flash, spare lens and shooting location. You can take a photo test first to ensure whether the camera settings, angle and photo composition are okay.
2. Direct people into one frame
It is not easy to organize a large number of people to listen to what you are giving instructions even though you are required to be able to combine these people to become one unit and pose. It's a good idea if you take photos from a higher place and your voice must be loud so that everyone can hear it.
3. Photo composition
You can determine the photo location in advance so that the results are good and not too crowded. You can arrange by height, which is taller at the back, or at the outermost part. If there are a lot of people being photographed, you can make them half tilted so they can all fit into the photo.
4. Help from others
Don't hesitate to ask other people for help, for example asking the MC for help at a wedding event to help gather the people.
5. Lighting
One of the most important is lighting. If you are shooting indoors, you can use an external flash and point it at the ceiling. But for outdoor photos, you need to control the light well because it shouldn't be partly bright and partly dark.
6. Set the camera distance to the subject
You can adjust the camera to be closer to the subject. For lenses, you can use a focal length of 30-50 mm to reduce distortion.
